It’s Sunday once again and time for Coming Up This Week. I have to say there were a few things happening this week that I actually had to look up and other things that I thought were pretty yummy!
Not being a kid anymore (for many, many years), as an adult I wondered why Halloween wouldn’t be National Candy Day instead of today. Looking into this day a bit more I found that National Candy Day isn’t about eating candy it’s about making it!
I had no idea what Gunpowder Day was all about and I had no idea who Guy Fawkes was or why he was given his own day. I was surprised to find out during my research that the two are actually connected. In my reading I discovered that Gunpowder Day is for the Gunpowder Conspirators, a group of Catholics who sought to take action against King James in 1605. They plotted to blow up the British Houses of Parliament. Guy Fawkes was the leader of the conspiracy, he was arrested just as he was about to light the gunpowder.
Of course we all must remember USMC Day on Saturday it’s a day celebrating the birth of the United States Marine Corps. which were formed during the Revolutionary War. If you see a Marine, active or retired, thank them for their service. If you’re an active or retired marine reading this….THANK YOU!! Your service is/was appreciated.
Forget-Me-Not Day is all about letting people know that they are important to you, that you’re thinking of them or that you miss them. Send a card or an e-card with Forget-Me Not’s on it. Maybe mail a packet of Forget-Me-Not seeds to someone special. You could even leave a candy bar with a Forget-Me-Not tag on it just to let someone know you’re thinking of them.
Take the time to look up some the days that you may not know about just to find out about their history or origin. For the holidays that you are more familiar with……find an interesting way to have some fun with them this week!!
